Green Power Development and Energy Efficiency Improvement Program (2016 - 2017)

The project aimed to expand the use of renewable energy for power generation. The first tranche of the program financed a 30-megawatt, run-of-the-river hydropower plant at Moragolla in Central Province and expand and upgrade transmission lines and other infrastructure in needy areas, including the former conflict-affected areas in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

Implementation of Energy Efficiency Policy Initiatives - Sri Lanka (2011 - 2013)

The overall objective of the project is to pilot test efficient lighting technologies in the residential sector and prepare application guidelines for a large scale sustainable program. The project also includes a policy study on efficient lighting and develops a roadmap for implementation based on international best practices.

Appliance Energy Testing and Labeling - Sri Lanka (2001 - 2002)

IIEC collaborated with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) to undertake a feasibility study for appliance testing and labeling in Sri Lanka. The present value costs of test facility, labeling and standards for 4 appliances (refrigerators, televisions, lighting, and fans) would amount to US $ 3.9 million (Rs 0.273 billion). The consumer benefits (present value) in the form of electricity savings are estimated to be US $ 94 million (Rs 6.6 billion) while the avoided capacity costs (present value) are projected to reach US $ 58.6 million (Rs 4.1 billion).

Demand-side Management Implementation Strategy and Load Research Program – Sri Lanka (1999 - 2002)

This 3-year project, funded by the World Bank, involved assisting the Demand-side Management (DSM) Branch of the Ceylon Electricity Board in conducting Load research. Market research, DSM program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; and undertaking demonstration projects on renewable energy and energy efficient technologies.
